Day 1 Saturday
We head north to the familiar surroundings of Yorkshire and reach the market town of Skipton – ‘The Gateway to the Dales’. Some scenes from the ‘Calendar Girls’ film were shot here, and we have free time to wander around the town – today is market day. Leaving mid-afternoon we enjoy a lovely scenic drive through ‘Emmerdale Country’ to Otley, ‘Hotton’ in the series, to the tiny village of Esholt, where the show was filmed for decades. We have arranged for a drink at the Woolpack and there is time to wander around the sleepy lanes known to many as ‘Beckindale’ and then ‘Emmerdale’. Dinner, bed & breakfast at the Mercure Hotel.
Day 2 Sunday
To Haworth, legendary home of the Bronte sisters and their notorious brother. Here you will find the Bronte Parsonage, visitor centre and gift shop. There is time for a brief stroll before we leave for Holmfirth, ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country, – see Sid’s Café and Nora’s steps and the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ exhibition (admission charge). This, is in what was Compo’s house, contains memorabilia and items from the series. Then we will head home.
